The introduction of the LASIK technique into ophthalmology in the mid-80s signified a genuine revolution, since it allowed the quick and painless correction of refractive problems(myopia hypermetropia y astigmatism) in millions of patients who now enjoy a life free from glasses or contact lenses.
Since then, laser surgery models have evolved, constantly seeking to incorporate improvements that will bring additional benefits to people wishing to correct their eye problem safely and effectively.
It must be added that new laser surgery models do not replace the older ones, but merely supplement them, allowing the treatment of patients who before could not receive treatment for problems with myopia, hypermetropia or astigmatism since their pupils were too large or their cornea to narrow, or because they suffered from dispersion of light (optical aberrations) causing a poor quality of vision (night glare).
ZYOPTIX 100 (Z100)
The Z100 laser is the sixth generation of laser for the treatment of refractive problemswith laser eye surgery (Lasik). It is twice as fast as the previous model, and can treat a larger number of refractive problems.
The main advantages of this laser are:
- The Eyetracker, a system which controls the movements of the eye during laser surgery, is four times more sensitive to small involuntary eye movements than other lasers, increasing the safety and predictability of the results.
- This laser surgery technology can treat a wider range of cases of myopia hypermetropia and astigmatism, since it saves a greater amount of corneal tissue.
- This smaller consumption of corneal tissue reduces the risk of problems with nocturnal vision (night glare).
- This new laser eye surgery system, which offers two different thicknesses of laser, can quickly and effectively correct the majority of refractive problems to give the patient a better quality of vision.
